Huynh announced the plan at the second meeting of the Steering Committee for Nuclear Power Plant Construction which took place in Ha Noi on February 4.

The program aims to enhance domestic capacity while mastering technologies toward safe and effective operation of nuclear power projects.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will also submit a plan on human resource training for nuclear power development to the Prime Minister for consideration and issuance in the third quarter this year, Huynh said.

He stressed that Viet Nam needs to develop a specific mechanism to attract students to study nuclear power, as well as a policy to lure people in the nuclear power sector to work at the Ministry of Science and Technology in particular and other state agencies in general during the process of building and operating nuclear power plants.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh entrusted the Viet Nam Electricity (EVN) and the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) as the investors of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plants 1 and 2.

The Government expected that these two nuclear power plants will come into operation by by December 31, 2030, which concides with the 100th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam./.
