Under the decision, the Government targets to expand, set up and effectively manage 27 maritime protected areas which account for around 0.463 percent of national waters.

The Government also targets to effectively manage 59 areas designated for protecting fisheries resources and 63 areas where fishing is temporarily banned.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was tasked to work with ministries, agencies and local People's Committees to implement this project.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment takes prime responsibility for working with ministries and agencies to assist localities in managing coastal wetlands and Ramsar sites in line with legal regulations and approved plans./.
