Pham made the suggestion on March 31 at his reception for Ambassador of Thailand to Viet Nam Nikorndej Balankura.

The Government chief asked the Thai side to increase import of Vietnamese goods through promoting the bridging role of Thailand's major distributors to bring Vietnamese goods to Thai consumers.

Both countries also need to step up talks on mutual recognition of their vaccine passports and resumption of regular commercial flights to facilitate travel between the sides, said Pham.

He promised that Viet Nam will continue to coordinate closely with Thailand to ensure the success of the APEC Year Thailand 2022.

For his part, Ambassador Nikorndej expressed his impression of Viet Nam's achievements in managing the COVID-19 pandemic, gradually rebooting the economy, and fully reopening borders to foreign arrivals.

The diplomat informed that Thailand has set up the Thai Business Council in Viet Nam to promote trade and investment ties between the two countries.

He promised that Thailand will effectively implement a project on sustainable community development in Thai Nguyen and Ben Tre provinces, thus improving the life quality of local residents there.

The ambassador also spoke highly of Vietnam's preparations for the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games, adding that Thailand is willing to contribute to the success of the regional sport event.

The diplomat also conveyed Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's invitations to Pham to visit Thailand at an appropriate time, and to senior leaders of Viet Nam to attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting hosted by Thailand in late 2022./.
