Viet Nam, Thailand enjoy robust and comprehensive relations
VGP - The relations between Viet Nam and Thailand have advanced robustly and comprehensively since the two countries established diplomatic ties in August 1976, noted Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong.

During an interview ahead of General Secretary and President To Lam's official visit to Thailand from May 27-29, Nguyen said the uprade of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025 marked an especially important milestone reflecting the two sides' high political trust and joint determination to further advance the relationship in a substantive and effective manner.
Both sides have maintained regular exchange of high-level visits and contacts as well as cooperation mechanisms across various fields, particularly the Joint Cabinet meeting.
Economic cooperation remains the dominant feature of the bilateral ties as evidenced by the fact that Thailand is the largest trading partner of Viet Nam in ASEAN, with the two-way trade reaching over US$22 billion in 2025.
Thailand is currently one of Viet Nam's leading investors in ASEAN, with many investment projects in energy, processing, retail sales, logistics, and infrastructure.
On defense and security, the two sides have sustained close cooperation in combatting transnational crime, drug, human trafficking, cybersecurity, and non-traditional security challenges, thus making positive contributions to consolidating trust and maintaining the environment of peace and stability in the region.
In addition, the two countries have forged closer cooperation in culture, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, thereby consolidating the friendship between the two nations.
Building on the above foundations, the upcoming Thailand visit by To Lam is of significant importance as this is his first visit to an ASEAN Member State since he assumed the dual role as the Party and State leader, said Nguyen.
The visit, which took place after the two countries elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, demonstrates Viet Nam's high regard for the relationship with Thailand as well as the Southeast Asian region, he added.
The visit will offer both sides to engage in extensive exchanges on major orientations to fruitfully implement the new partnership framework, thus injecting fresh momentum to the bilateral ties in the coming time.
It is expected that the visit will help further consolidate and deepen political trust between the two countries amid rapid and complex evolution of the regional and global landscape, thereby solidifying foundation for expand bilateral cooperation across all areas.
The visit is expected to open up new cooperation opportunities in trade, investment, logistics, and supply chain connectivity while fostering regional cooperation as both sides play important role in intra-ASEAN economic connectivity.
The two sides are also expected to discuss ways to bolster coordination at regional and international forums, especially within ASEAN, thus contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.
