Viet Nam suggests Canada soon recognize vaccine passport
VGP - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested Canada soon recognize Viet Nam's vaccine passport during his phone call with Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly on March 22.
To date, Viet Nam reached agreement on mutual recognition of vaccine passport with 17 countries.
Viet Nam is willing to work with Canada to promote the comprehensive partnership between the two countries in a practical and effective manner as both sides mark the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties (1973-2023) and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of strategic partnership (2017-2022), affirmed Bui.
He asked both sides to resume high-level visits and bilateral dialogue mechanisms and take advantages of opportunities brought by the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The Vietnamese diplomat also suggested Canada continue facilitating the import of Viet Nam's farm produce, especially seasonal fruits and aquatic products as well as foster collaboration with Viet Nam in climate change adaptation to help the Southeast Asian country realize its commitments at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
He asked Canada to step up cooperation with Viet Nam in other sectors such as digital transformation, green finance, green and sustainable growth, human resource training and international and regional issues of mutual concerns.
For her part, Melanie Joly reiterated that Canada attaches importance to the relationship with Viet Nam.
She pledged to collaborate with the Vietnamese foreign ministry in organizing practical events in celebration of the the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of comprehensive partnership.
Regarding Ukraine issue, Bui affirmed Viet Nam's consistent stance of settling international disputes and differences via peaceful measures in line with the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly the principles of respecting independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, ensuring safety for civilians, including Vietnamese nationals in Ukraine.
On the East Sea issue, the two foreign ministers underlined the importance of compliance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS1982).
They agreed to sustain close coordination at multilateral forums like the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN, and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF)./.
