Viet Nam starts anti-dumping investigation into galvanized steel from China, South Korea

The decision was made as five local enterprises namely Hoa Sen Group Corporation, Nam Kim Steel Corporation, Ton Phuong Nam Company, Ton Dong A Corporation, and China Steel & Nippon Steel Viet Nam Corporation accused galvanized steel products from China and South Korea of being dumped into the Vietnamese market, thereby causing significant damage to the domestic manufacturing industry.

These firms have released data to determine the dumping margin of 69.23 percent and 3.41 percent for the products from China and the RoK, respectively.

The investigation period lasts from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2023, while the investigation period to identify damage is between April 1, 2018, and March 31.

The MoIT will send an investigation questionnaire to relevant parties in order to collect information to analyze and evaluate the consequences.

Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, the MoIT will apply temporary anti-dumping measures in an effort to prevent any dumping behavior that has caused significant damage to the domestic manufacturing industry.

The ministry encourages all organizations and individuals involved in the import, distribution, trade, or use of the goods under investigation to register as stakeholders and provide the necessary information to ensure that their rights and interests are protected by law.

In 2017, Viet Nam imposed anti-dumping duties on galvanized steel imported from China and South Korea, with the highest duty rate being 38.34 percent.

According to the Viet Nam Steel Association, between 2016 and 2023, Viet Nam initiated 10 trade defense investigations on imported steel products, most of which involved steel products originating from China./.
