The Agreement that mutually recognizes international driving permits between the Vietnamese and Korean Governments will take effect from July 23.
Under the agreement, Korean citizens holding an International Driving Permit will be allowed to drive in Viet Nam within one year from the date of issue.
The Korean National Police Agency estimated that over 4.3 million nationals are qualified for driving in Viet Nam.
Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol witnessed the signing of the document on June 23 during the latter’s state visit to Viet Nam.
The Korean Government had granted permission for holders of international driving permits issued by Viet Nam to drive in South Korea under Article 96 of the country's Road Traffic Law.
South Korea is a signatory of the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (1946) which has been ratified by 101 countries. The country accepts international driving licences of signatories of the 1968 Vienna Convention.
However, Viet Nam only accepts driving licenses of countries participating in the Vienna Convention (currently 86 nations)./.
