Viet Nam should strive to be among top 30-35 largest economies by 2030
VGP – Viet Nam should set goal to be among top 30-35 largest economies globally and a upper-middle-income country by the end of this decade.
Pham mentioned the goal on Moday while addressing a meeting to review the progress of the implementation of the socio-ecoconomic development strategy for 2021-2030.
Viet Nam's economic share in ASEAN's total GDP has grown enormously over the years, doubling from less than 6 percent in 2000 to around 12 percent currently, according to Heng Koon How, Head of Market Strategy, Global Market and Economic Research, Singapore-based UOB Bank.
From an isolated country, Viet Nam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries around the globe, strategic and comprehensive partnerships with 30 countries including all permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and major countries, and is an active member of more than 70 regional and international organizations.
Once known for a country with backward economy, Viet Nam has emerged to be among the top 40 economies with the GDP size of US$435 billion and has evolved into one of 20 largest trading economies
The Southeast Asian country is now an important link in 16 free trade agreements involving 60 major economies in the region and the world.
The Vietnamese economy is forecast to grow 6.1 percent in 2024 and 6.5 percent in both 2025 and 2026, the World Bank predicted last month.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecast the growth outlook for Viet Nam in 2024 and 2025 remains unchanged at 6 and 6.2 percent respectively, driven by a strong first-half in 2024.
The International Monetary Fund pegs Viet Nam's economic growth at nearly 6 percent this year, driven by exports, foreign direct investment, and policy support./.
