Viet Nam seeks Canadian support in post-pandemic period
VGP - Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son suggested Canada open market for Vietnamese goods and back the Southeast Asian nation to revitalize the economy in post-pandemic time.

Bui made the suggestion on Tuesday during talks with his Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly who is on a working visit to Viet Nam on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of comprehensive partnership between Viet Nam and Canada (2017-2022).
The Vietnamese FM also asked Canada to soon recognize Viet Nam's vaccine passport and create favorable ways for overseas Vietnamese citizens in Canada.
The two ministers agreed to boost cooperation towards the 50th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam-Canada diplomatic ties (1973-2023).
The two-way trade turnover outstripped US$ 6 billion in 2021, representing a year-on-year increase of 19 percent despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bilateral cooperation in education and training, climate change and disease response was strengthened.
The pair also discussed regional and international issues of shared concern. Regarding the East Sea issue, they underscored the necessity of upholding the observance of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
They agreed to continue working closely at regional and international multilateral forums such as the UN, APEC, ASEAN, and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).
With regard to the Ukraine issue, Bui affirmed the country’s consistent stance, which steadfastly supports the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means on the basis of respecting the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law.
He called for an immediate end to the use of force that casualties and damage to civilians, essential infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of civilians, including Vietnamese in Ukraine.
Viet Nam stands ready to make active contributions to humanitarian assistance, diplomatic processes, dialogue and negotiations, as well as reconstruction and rehabilitation in Ukraine./.
