The Ministry of Construction has released a new maritime infrastructure master plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

Under the plan, Viet Nam's seaports are devided into two groups.

The first group includes 15 seaports located in Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Can Tho and Vinh Long.

The second group includes six seaports in Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Dak Lak, Dong Thap, An Giang and Ca Mau.

Notably, the Southeast Asian nation will build  new major seaports such as Can Gio International Transshipment Port in Ho Chi Minh City, Lien Chieu Container Port in the central city of Da Nang, and the Nam Do Son Port and Logistics Center in the northern city of Hai Phong.
