Viet Nam receives over US$22 million in aid for Yagi Typhoon relief efforts
VGP - As of September 16, 20 countries and international organizations have announced emergency relief packages to assist Viet Nam in overcoming the devastating consequences caused by typhoon Yagi.

The packages include US$22 million in cash and essential items such as water filters/purifiers. water containers, blankets kitchen utensils and solar lanterns.
Leaders of countries around the world have sent letters, telegrams and messages of sympathies to General Secretary, President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
Most recently, Cambodia's Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and National Assembly President Khuon Sudary sent condolences to Vietnamese State and people, expressing their hope that Viet Nam will overcome this difficult time.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared losses and affirmed solidarity with Vietnamese people, adding that India stands ready to support those affected by the storm to overcome difficulties and restore normality into their lives.
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon pledged to assist Viet Nam in overcoming the aftermath of the typhoon and returning to stability as soon as possible.
Pope Francis, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, and President of Seychelles Wavel Ramkalawan also cabled messages of condolence, expressing their sympathies to damages incurred due to Typhoon Yagi.
The occasion, Foreign Ministers of Cambodia, the U.S., New Zealand, Egypt, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, and Seychelles sent telegrams to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreing Minister Bui Thanh Son.
Foreign ministries and embassies from various countries also extended their condolences through their websites and social media platforms, expressing sympathy for the damage facing Vietnamese people.
Countries and many international organizations have promptly provided financial aid, equipment, essential supplies, and expert assistance.
Individuals and collectives at home and abroad have donated over VND1.09 trillion (US$44.4 million) to the Central Relief Committee under the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) to support people hit by Typhoon Yagi as of 5pm on September 15.
Yagi was the most powerful typhoon in the East Sea over the past 30 years, and the most powerful to hit mainland Viet Nam in 70 years.
The super typhoon and its aftermath have wreaked havoc across northern Viet Nam.
As of September 15, typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm hitting Viet Nam this year, left 350 people dead and missing, and other 2,000 people injured in northern Viet Nam.
The initially estimated economic damage has reached VN40 trillion (US$1.6 billion), according to Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung./.
