Viet Nam pours over US$3.7 billion into Development Triangle Area in Laos, Cambodia
VGP - Viet Nam has poured over US$3.7 billion into 100 projects in the Development Triangle Area in Cambodia and Laos, making up 44 percent of its total investment capital in these two neighboring countries, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Of the total, US$2 billion was invested in 65 projects in Laos and US$1.7 billion was poured into 45 projects in Cambodia.
The above figures were released at the 13th meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam (CLV) Development Triangle Area which was held in Attapeu, Laos, on February 27.
Meanwhile, Viet Nam's five localities of Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc which are located in the Development Triangle Area attracted many as 521 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects worth over US$6 billion.
These five localities have so far invested in 41 projects in the Development Triangle Area in Laos and Cambodia, with a total registered capital of US$1.65 billion.
The meeting is one of the mechanisms of the development triangle cooperation framework to promote peace and comprehensive socio-economic development in their border provinces.
Established in 1999, the CLV's development triangle area has been welcomed by various parties, both public and private, and growing, currently covering 13 provinces of three countries including four in Laos, four in Cambodia and five of Viet Nam. It is sized 144,600 sq. km and has a population of about 6.7 million people.
The meeting provides an opportunity for the participants to discuss CLV's action plan on economic linkages and tourism development plan as well as the directions of cooperation to promote and attract more trade, investment and tourism to the triangle area./.
