Viet Nam looks to welcome 5 million foreign visitors next year

VGP – Viet Nam expects to receive 65 million tourists, including 5 million foreign visitors and earn VND 400 trillion (over US$ 17 billion) in tourism revenue next year, according to General Director of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh.

December 24, 2021 1:50 PM GMT+7

Nguyen said that the COVID-19 pandemic has left heavy impacts on the tourism sector in Viet Nam. In 2021, the sector has served for about 40 million domestic guests, representing a year-on-year decline of 29%, and earned VND 180 trillion.

As of late 2021, Viet Nam will receive about 3,500 foreign visitors with vaccine passports in combo models when the country started launching a pilot tourism program in November in five localities namely Phu Quoc, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Nha Trang and Quang Ninh.  According to General Director Nguyen, the number of foreign arrivals represents an encouraging signal for the tourism sector after over 19-month borders closure.

In January 2022, Viet Nam targets to receive foreign guests from the Republic of Korea, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and India.

In addition, the pilot program will be expanded for foreign visitors via sea route and roads and cover two additional localities namely Binh Dinh and Ho Chi Minh City.

The General Director revealed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism is amending the Temporary Guidance No.4122/HD-BVHTTDL dated November 05, 2021 of the MCST on piloting welcoming international tourists to Viet Nam.

Accordingly, foreign tourists may be allowed to participate in other tourism programs, visit relatives and other localities if they receive negative PCR tests on the third day of arrival to Viet Nam.

However, international visitors are asked to take PCR tests within 72 hours before entering Viet Nam and own vaccine passport or certificate of recovery from COVID-19./.
