Viet Nam moves up on global internet speed ranking
VGP - Viet Nam now ranks 19th globally in terms of mobile internet speed, up 29 notches from last year, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Viet Nam’s 5G development strategy has been translated into national digital technology and infrastructure policies with a target of an average internet speed of 100 Mbps by 2025 and full nationwide 5G coverage by 2030
Specifically, Viet Nam's mobile Internet speed reached 148.64 Mbps, taking it into the world's top 20 for the first time and approaching fixed broadband speeds. In September 2024, Viet Nam's mobile Internet speed was 54.17 Mbps, ranking 51st globally, but in less than six months the speed nearly tripled.
Experts attributed Viet Nam’s internet speed increase to 5G expansions by VinaPhone and Viettel.
The two telecom groups earned top spots on the global stage, with VinaPhone’s 5G network ranked second worldwide and Viettel third for overall mobile performance, according to Ookla’s latest Speedtest report.
In Ookla’s Q1–Q2 2025 reports on the world’s fastest 5G and overall mobile networks, Vietnamese telecom giants VinaPhone and Viettel were recognized among the top three globally.
To support the rapid rollout of 5G, the Ministry of Science and Technology has implemented pilot mechanisms, streamlined regulatory barriers, and introduced financial incentives. So far, 26 percent of Viet Nam’s population has access to 5G services.
The ICT industry's revenue reached VND 478.539 trillion, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent. The postal output in July is estimated at 330 million parcels, an increase of 18.7 percent.
Revenue from major e-commerce platforms is expected to reach VND 387.5 trillion, up 21.5 percent. Viet Nam's AI economy is projected to reach a scale of USD 120-130 billion by 2040./.
