Addressing the event, Hoang emphasized that security and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea is the issue of vital importance to countries in the region and the ASEAN community.

From that perspective, he called for full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and early conclusion of a pratical and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

Hoang affirmed Viet Nam always sticks to settlement of all differences through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

A part from critically emerging non-traditional security challenges, there are signs indicating that traditional security issues are getting more complicated, said the Deputy Minister of National Defense, reiterating that Viet Nam remains consistent with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multi-lateralization of external relations.

The Southeast Asian nation expects countries to resolve differences through peaceful measures with respect for international law, the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of ASEAN.

The ADMM Plus is a key platform for defense leaders from 10 ASEAN Member States and its eight dialogue partners namely Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and the United States to strengthen security and defense cooperation for peace, stability, and development in the region.

The inaugural ADMM Plus was convened in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, on October 12, 2020./.
