Chairman Vu made released the figure at the 25th anniversary of Internet development in Viet Nam and the Internet Day 2022.

So far, Internet has played an important role in all fields in Viet Nam, which has helped boost the progress of national digital conversion since the country connected to the global Internet network on November 19, 1997, he added.

The Ministry of Information and Communications reported that mobile broadband infrastructure has reached 99.73 percent of villages nationwide.

Viet Nam also has 94.2 million smartphone users and 82.2 million mobile broadband subscribers, accounting for 74.3 percent of the national population.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director of the Viet Nam Internet Network Information Center, said that there are over 564,000 “.vn” domains in Viet Nam, placing the country the second in ASEAN and in Top 10 in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Connecting to the global Internet 25 years ago was "a courageous decision, showing a long-term vision for integration, making a comprehensive change in daily life of the people and the country, according to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long.

Viet Nam's National Digital Transformation Program to 2025 with orientations towards 2030 clearly states that Viet Nam’s digital infrastructure development will be associated with Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and 5G technology. In order to ensure the sustainable development and safety of Viet Nam's digital infrastructure, Viet Nam will focus on upgrading Internet infrastructure and platforms.

Plans are in place to expand regional and international Internet connections and develop undersea fiber optic cables to make Viet Nam one of the connectivity hubs in the region. The transition to the new generation Internet protocol (IPv6) will help Viet Nam connect more strongly with the global information society.

Paul Wilson, Director General of the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) assessed that Internet is booming in Viet Nam in which the rate of new generation Internet protocol (IPv6) users accounted for 50 percent of Vietnamese population./.
