Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang
The U.S. Administration has decided to suspend USAID workers for 90 days and halted most of its international aid work starting February 7, including in Viet Nam.
Over the past years, through various means and mechanisms of cooperation, including the USAID, the two countries have engaged in effective collaboration in various fields, including healthcare, environment, climate change, disaster relief and post-war legacy issues, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters.
The aid provided by the U.S. has been effectively utilized across many provinces and cities in Viet Nam and has brought a better life for those who are directly benefiting from these foreign aid projects, she noted.
The suspension of USAID-supported projects, especially those related to bomb and mine clearance or dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa air base, will significantly impact human safety, the environment, and the livelihoods of the residents in the project areas, said the Spokesperson.
She went on to say that the U.S. support and cooperation with Viet Nam in searching for American military personnel missing in action during the war in the Southeast Asian nation have played a practical role in strengthening the friendship between the peoples of both countries, consolidating trust and fostering a positive relationship between Viet Nam and the U.S.
This cooperation holds great significance as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, she stressed.
Viet Nam hopes to work with the U.S. to effectively and substantively implement these cooperative activities, thus contributing to advancing the bilateral ties in a long and enduring fashion, in line with the spirit of the Viet Nam-U.S. Joint Statement on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development, she said./.
