Viet Nam, Dominica sign cooperation deals
VGP – Viet Nam and Dominica have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of the Joint Committee for trade and technical facilitation.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Dominican President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona in Santo Domingo on November 20 (local time) as part of the former's ongoing official visit to Dominica.
Both sides also signed a MoU on cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam and Diplomatic Academy of Dominica.
Addressing the press briefing following the signing ceremony, President Abinader says one of his country's strategic targets is to promote and heighten relations with Viet Nam as both countries share various common goals after opening embassy in Ha Noi in 2021.
Abinader said during his summit meeting with Pham earlier the same day, both sides discussed measures to boost bilateral cooperation in such potential areas as defense, telecommunication and tourism.
For his part, Pham said this is the first visit by a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Dominica after nearly 20 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations.
Pham said he suggested that both countries should negotiate and sign a number of agreements to create legal foundation for promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two sides, during his summit meeting with President Abinader.
These deals should encompass trade, investment, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges, added the Vietnamese Prime Minister.
Both countries should also work together to uphold multilateralism and international cooperation to contribute to peace, cooperation and development in the world amid rapid and complex evolution of the global situation./.
