At the invitation of Their Majesties King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark, General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse will pay a State Visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026.

"With General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and State President To Lam's visit, we are opening a new chapter in our partnership," Ambassador of Denmark to Viet Nam and Laos Lina Gandløse Hansen told VGP.

Ambassador Lina Gandløse Hansen said the visit will focus on trade and investment, green solutions, energy, innovation and education, sustainable food, culture, and bilateral and international cooperation.

At a time of major change in the world, it is particularly important that small and medium-sized countries such as Denmark and Viet Nam strengthen their relations and further advance their cooperation, stressed Ambassador Lina Gandløse Hansen.

According to the Ambassador, the Danish Royal House has longstanding historical ties with Viet Nam. Prince Henrik spent the first five years of his life in Ha Noi and later returned to study there.

As Crown Prince and Crown Princess, the current King and Queen of Denmark made two official visits to Viet Nam, most recently in 2022. Denmark has made one State Visit to Viet Nam, while the upcoming visit will be the second State Visit by a Vietnamese leader to Denmark.

From development assistance to strategic partnership

From 1993 to 2015, Viet Nam was a partner country for Danish development assistance, receiving total support of DKK 5.5 billion over the period.

Today, bilateral cooperation has evolved towards a primarily strategic and commercial relationship, alongside government-to-government cooperation.

Government-to-government cooperation now forms a key pillar of bilateral ties, particularly in energy, food safety, healthcare, technical education and statistics.

Around 150 Danish companies are currently operating in Viet Nam, making Denmark the country's third-largest European investor.

In 2025, Viet Nam ranked as Denmark's 40th-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching DKK 11.3 billion.
