VGP - Viet Nam requests that the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to remove the map depicting the cow tongue-shaped line as it violates Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang
Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang made the call in response to reporters’ inquiries about Viet Nam’s response when China’s ‘nine-dash line’ is used by the WMO on its facebook.
Ms. Le reiterated that Viet Nam has opposed the China’s ‘nine-dash line’ for many times and China's maritime claims which are contrary to international conventions, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
“Viet Nam rejects all null and void forms of propaganda, promotion, and posting of contents and images which violate our sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, as well as our sovereign rights and jurisdiction to relevant waters in the East Sea that has been established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," the Spokesman asserted.
Viet Nam demands countries and organizations respect Viet Nam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos as well as relevant sea regions in the East Sea, Le said.
She also urged the WMO to remove the inappropriate content.
Earlier, the Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international organixations in Geneva also discussed with representatives of the WMO on the issue.
