Viet Nam, Cambodia celebrate 55 years of diplomatic ties
VGP - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai and his Cambodian counterpart Men Sam An attended a ceremony marking the 55th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam-Cambodia diplomatic relations in Ha Noi on June 24.
In his remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister Le highlighted the geographical proximity along with similarities in culture and history which are a solid foundation for Viet Nam and Cambodia to cultivate and develop one of the long-lasting traditional relationships in Southeast Asia.
Under the motto "Good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability", over the past years, the bilateral relations have been continuously consolidated and developed in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the two peoples, and making positive contributions to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.
Two-way trade reached US$ 9.54 billion in 2021, up 79.1 percent year-on-year, and US$ 5.44 billion in the first five months of 2022.
Viet Nam is running 188 valid investment projects worth US$2.8 billion in Cambodia, making Viet Nam the biggest ASEAN foreign direct investor in Cambodia.
The countries signed two legal documents recognizing the completion of 84 percent of the land border demarcation and marker planting in 2019, and are negotiating to fulfill the remaining work.
The Vietnamese Party, State and people said the Vietnamese Government leader always attach great importance and give high priority to the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, Le affirmed.
In reply, Ms. Men Sam An extended her sincerest and most profound respect and gratitude for the support of the Vietnamese Party, State, army and people for the Cambodian side.
The Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister praised Viet Nam's support and assistance to the development of Cambodia from a war-torn to a unified country with complete peace and development in all areas./.
