Viet Nam calls on China, Philippines to exercise maximum restraint in East Sea
VGP - Viet Nam calls on China and the Philippines to exercise maximum restraint following reports of a collision between their vessels near the Bai Co May (Second Thomas Shoal), pokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang to reporters on Friday.
Viet Nam is closely monitoring and deeply concerned about the incident on June 17 and urges the relevant sides to act appropriately in line with international law, espect respect sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the exclusive economic zones and continental shelves of coastal countries as defined in line with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and seriously and fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
Viet Nam also requests the relevant parties to respect and abide by international regulations on the safety of navigation and overflight, and the prevention and control of collisions and crashes at sea, so as to contribute to maintaining peace, stability and sustainable development in the region./.
