Viet Nam, Brunei agree to diversify trade linkages
VGP - Viet Nam and Brunei agreed to boost bilateral trade in a more diverse and balanced manner through expanding collaboration in potential areas, prioritising oil and gas, chemicals, Halal products and tourism, people-to-people exchange.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam on May 10 on the sidelines of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia as the pair went there to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit and related meetings.
The two leaders agreed to strengthen exchanges of contacts and high-level delegations to materialize the Action Plan on the implementation of Viet Nam-Brunei comprehensive partnership for the 2023-2027 period.
Prime Minister Pham suggested Brunei further facilitate market access for Vietnamese goods, particularly agro-fishery products meeting Halal standards; work towards the early signing of an MoU on bilateral cooperation in agriculture and fishery; effectively maintain the hotline supporting fishing activities; and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese firms to participate in construction and oil-and-gas service supply in Brunei.
He also highly spoke of the Vietnamese teaching model at the University of Brunei Darussalam and suggested that Brunei expand the model, thus promoting bilateral cooperation in education.
In reply, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah said that the two countries have great potentials for cooperation in economy, trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, energy, education-training, national defense and people to people exchange.
The two leaders vowed to maintain close consultations and join hands in the process of ASEAN Community building./.
