Viet Nam backs UNESCO's role in education promotion: Ambassador
VGP - As a member of the UNESCO Executive Council, Viet Nam always supports the organization's role in promoting education globally, said Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Viet Nam's Permanent Representative to the UN.
Dang made the above statement while addressing an ambassador-level session of the Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning in New York on May 15.
The meeting drew the participation of United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammad, Assistant Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for Education Stefania Giannini, along with Ambassadors, Heads of Delegations and representatives of nearly 30 United Nations member countries.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammad emphasized the need to focus on ensuring finance for education and rights for teachers and to optimize digital transformation in this field.
At the session, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang spoke highly of the Group's efforts in pushing ahead with contents and commitments relating to education in the draft Future Summit Document, the most important event of the UN in 2024.
He suggested holding activities between the Group and UN member countries to step up dialogues and share information, initiatives and educational experiences.
The Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning was established in 2020 on the International Day of Education, January 24, and has nearly 50 members.
The Group aims to promote education issues on the United Nations agenda, as well as share initiatives and good practices to ensure the right to education of member countries./.
