In her opening remarks, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Masurdi highlighted many difficult circumstances in the region, calling on countries to cooperate to ensure the success of the meeting.
ASEAN needs to prove that it is still a relevant organization, contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, she said.
Regarding efforts to build the ASEAN Community over the past year, with preparations for the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 in ASEAN Concord IV, ASEAN continues to shape regional dynamics and ensure a peaceful and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
Notably, that more countries acceded to the Treaty on Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and became partners of ASEAN, which shows the broad acceptance of ASEAN's norms and values.
Besides the results achieved, Foreign Minister Retno said that ASEAN still faces some challenges, including the situation in Myanmar, in which Indonesia, as ASEAN Chair, has been trying to push for a unified solution.
She also stressed that ASEAN could only steam forward in full power if the block could ensure a peaceful and lasting solution in Myanmar.
As mandated by ASEAN leaders, the regional ministers will conduct a comprehensive review on the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) implementation and put foward recommendations to the 43rd ASEAN Summit./.
