VGP - The Central Party Committee on Thursday agreed to let Truong Thi Mai step down as Politburo member and Permanent Member of the Secretariat at her personal request.

The agreement was reached during the first day of the 9th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee.

Truong Thi Mai was found by the Central Inspection Commission to have committed violations to Party regulations and her violations have negatively affected the reputation of the Party and herself.

General Luong Cuong, new Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat

The same day, the Politburo decided to assign General Luong Cuong, member of the Politburo and Director of the General Department of Politics to replace Truong Thi Mai.

General Luong Cuong, 67, has been a member of the Central Party Committee, the Politburo and the Secretary of the Central Party Committee. 

He enrolled in the army in 1975, before becoming the Vice Director of the General Department of Politics in 2011 and the Director of the General Department of Politics in 2016./.
