Viet Nam active domestically and internationally: Australian expert
VGP – Viet Nam has been active both domestically and internationally, noted Layton Pike, co-founder of the Australia-Viet Nam Policy Institute (AVPI).
Layton Pike made the above comment while addressing the AVPI Conference themed "Embracing transition, transformation and trust: Exploring the future of the Australia-Viet Nam relationship" held in Adelaide city on October 17.
The conference brought together more than 130 delegates who are prestigious experts and business representatives from the sides to discuss measures to boost the Viet Nam-Australia relations across fields, thus contributing to development and prosperity in the two countries.
Layton Pike said Viet Nam has achieved incredible economic achievements in recent years as evidenced by annual high GDP growth rates and improved living standards.
Despite global headwinds, Viet Nam has managed to achieve the average GDP growth of 7.26 percent in 2001-2010 and around 6 percent between 2011 and 2020; 2.58 percent in 2021, 8.02 percent in 2022, and 5.05 percent in 2023.
The Southeast Asian country has accelerated international economic integration through its relations with foreign partners and encouragement of foreign direct investment into the nation.
The country has set up trade relations with 224 countries and territories, joined 16 free trade agreements involving all the biggest economies in the world,
Looking forwards to the future, Viet Nam should continue its domestic economic reform and international economic integration agenda, he suggested.
Regarding Viet Nam-Australia relations, Layton Pike said the bilateral ties are now at the highest-ever stage of development and optimistic outlook remains bright ahead./.
