Vice President meets UNDP Administrator in New York
VGP - Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan suggested UNDP continue to actively support Viet Nam in finance, and policy advice and strengthen capacity to implement priority policies.
The Vietnamese leader had a meeting with UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner in New York, the U.S., on March 11, on sidelines of the 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68).
At the meeting, she hailed the UNDP's leading role in the UN's development system, especially in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She expressed thanks to the UNDP for always accompanying and supporting Viet Nam in the national development process for nearly 50 years, via the total aid reaching nearly US$1 billion.
Vo highly appreciated UNDP's cooperation in implementing the Country Program Document for Viet Nam for the 2022-2026 period, and the Draft Outline of the Viet Nam Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Resource Mobilization Plan.
She recommended the UNDP continue providing assistance for Viet Nam in terms of socio-economic development for the Mekong Delta, and effective and sustainable management and use of Mekong River water resources.
Steiner, for his part, reiterated that Viet Nam and the UNDP share the same priorities in spheres of green conversion and digital transformation.
The UNDP is willing to assist the nation in achieving its net-zero emissions target by 2050 and implementing the JETP, he stated.
The agency will help Viet Nam accelerate the decarbonization process and ensure access to affordable clean energy, as well as act as a bridge between Viet Nam and international donors, as well as between Mekong River basin countries to support Viet Nam to reach the set goals, he underscored.
Both sides pledged to foster close coordination to help Viet Nam make active contributions to the global efforts of the UNDP and promote sustainable development./.
