U.S. Secretary of Defense starts official visit to VN

VGP – U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis will pay an official visit to Viet Nam from January 24-25 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart General Ngo Xuan Lich.

January 24, 2018 11:13 AM GMT+7

The visit is aimed at enhancing the friendship and trust between the two countries’ armies and people, contributing to pushing the Viet Nam-US Comprehensive Partnership.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang told a press briefing on January 18 that in Viet Nam’s “independent and diverse” foreign policies, the nation’s guidelines are to develop intensive cooperation with all partners based on the basis of mutual benefits for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

On the spirit, the two sides are discussing the first visit by a U.S. aircraft carrier to Viet Nam this year, which will be arranged at appropriate time.
