US eyes closer agricultural ties with VN

VGP - US agriculture firms want to form joint ventures with Vietnamese enterprises and get to know the Vietnamese government’s agriculture-related programs to tap the country’s promising agriculture, said Deputy Under Secretary for Farm And Foreign Agricultural Services Michael Scuse.

Mr. Scuse made the statement when meeting reporters on September 27 during a four-day visit to Hồ Chí Minh City by the first trade promotion delegation of the US Department of Agriculture.

During the visit starting on September 26, 15 US firms operating in the fields of agricultural equipment, tools and consumer goods are to meet 150 Vietnamese producers, distributors, importers and investors to seek the creation of  trading links.

It is time to invest in Việt Nam’s agriculture, one of 15 big agricultural export markets of the US, Mr. Scuse said.

Vice Chairman of the Hồ Chí Minh City People’s Committee Lê Minh Trí said: “Hồ Chí Minh City is focusing on developing urban agriculture, agricultural services and biotechnology. It has a wish to establish ties with countries with advanced agriculture.”

Việt Nam exported US $11 billion worth of goods to the US, and imported US $2.9 billion worth of products from the foreign country in the first 9 months of this year.
