U.S. decision to delay imposition ofreciprocal tariffs is "positive step"
VGP - U.S. decision to temporarily halt reciprocal tariffs on imports from over 75 countries, including Viet Nam, is a "positive step", said Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang.
The move paves the ways for the two sides to negotiate with each other on the basis of mutual respect, Pham told reporters on April 10.
Viet Nam said the diplomat will negotiate with the U.S. a reciprocal trade agreement based on mutual respect, aiming to achieve proper solutions towards fair and sustainable trade that benefit the people and businesses of both countries.
This reflects the spirit of the Viet Nam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as the spirit of 30 years of their diplomatic relations, the Spokeswoman said.
She went on to say that 2025 marks three decades of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and the U.S., during which a wide range of commemorative activities, including high-level delegation exchanges, have been organized.

During the meeting, the U.S. side agreed that both sides should initiate negotiations on a bilateral reciprocal trade deal, which would include tariff agreements and asked technical levels from the two countries to begin discussions immediately.
