UK, UNICEF provide medical equipment to Viet Nam
VGP - The British Embassy in Ha Noi and UNICEF have handed over £500,000 in life-saving equipment to the Ministry of Health to assist recovery of Viet Nam’s health system.
The equipment, funded by the UK government and delivered through UNICEF in December 2022, include 500 patient vital signs monitors and 500 syringe pumps.
The Ministry of Health will soon distribute the equipment to hospitals and health facilities in need nationwide. This support demonstrates friendship and hope to make a small contribution to Viet Nam's post-pandemic recovery.
Addressing the event, British Ambassador to Viet Nam Iain Frew stressed that this medical equipment shows both the UK's long-term and practical as well as moral support to Vietnamese patients and medical doctors in most vulnerable areas to overcome hardships, particularly in health.
The UK will continue to cooperate closely with the Ministry of Health to strengthen and support resilient health systems and services for Viet Nam, he added.
UNICEF Viet Nam OIC Representative Ziad Nabulsi said the equipment supported by the UK Government will contribute greatly to the ongoing efforts to keep Viet Nam safe from the COVID-19 outbreak as well as to strengthen its health system post-COVID.
UNICEF, along with its partners, will continue to focus on strengthening Viet Nam's health system, he emphasized.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK was one of the initial countries that donated vaccines to Viet Nam, with over 2 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID19 vaccines.
Wider health cooperation between the UK and Viet Nam include work on antimicrobial resistance, non-communicable diseases, health education and digital health.
