Tsunami warning system to cover 13 localities
VGP – A system of tsunami warning stations will be installed in coastal areas and populated islands in 13 cities and provinces nationwide, according to a newly-approved project.

The target localities include the central provinces of Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên Huế, Đà Nẵng, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi and the southern provinces of Bình Định, Phú Yên, Khánh Hòa, Ninh Thuận, Bình Thuận and Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu.
The project, which will last till 2016, consists of three phases.
In the first phase, in 2012, the project will be formulated and ratified in detail.
In 2013-2014, early tsunami warning stations will be installed in the provinces of Đà Nẵng, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi, Bình Định, Phú Yên, Khánh Hòa and Ninh Thuận.
In the third and last phase, tsunami alert stations will cover the rest provinces.
Under the project, the Institute of Geophysics is the only agency responsible for deciding tsunami warnings and supervising and analyzing tsunami threats in Việt Nam./.
