Transport ministry proposes expansion of Con Dao airport
VGP - The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has proposed to upgrade and expand Con Dao airport to handle A320, A321 and B737 aircraft.
The proposal was sent to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.
The expansion project with total investment of about VND1.6 trillion (US$66.9 million) targets to expand the existing runway with a size of 1,830mx45m, build a new parallel taxiway and connecting taxiways and improve night lighting.
The landing system will mean aircraft such as the A319 and B737 will be able to use the airport, in accordance with the Prime Minister's instructions.
At present, the runway and taxiway at the Con Dao airport, which were built in 2004, are in a poor condition and the 30-meter wide runway can only be used for planes such as the ATR72 and equivalent.
The island, about 230 km from Ho Chi Minh City, has become increasingly attractive to visitors as it is an ideal attraction for those interested in discovering Vietnamese history and enjoying the pristine beauty and escape from the daily bustle life.
Con Dao owns long and white sandy beaches, a beautiful ocean world with colorful coral reefs, and primary rain forests with rich flora and fauna./.
