Top Vietnamese legislator starts official visit to Mongolia

The top Vietnamese legislator and his entourage were welcomed at Chinggis Khan Aiport by Mongolian Ambassador to Viet Nam Ganbaatar Hulan, Chairwoman of the Viet Nam - Mongolia Friendship Parliamentary Group (VMFPG) Judagiin Bayarmaam and representatives from Mongolia's Parliament Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Vietnamese Ambassador to Mongolia Nguyen Tuan Thanh and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy were also at the airport to welcome the delegation.

Viet Nam and Mongolia have consistently supported each other while maintaining close cooperation through Party, State and Government channels, as well as people-to-people exchanges. Bilateral ties in politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, agriculture and education have received due attention from leaders at all levels, steadily expanding in both scope and substance and producing increasingly practical and effective results.

Economic, trade and investment cooperation has continued to make positive progress through a range of agreements, commitments and joint projects. Bilateral trade reached US$155 million in 2025 and nearly US$60 million in the first six months of 2026. 

Cooperation in culture, tourism, education, agriculture, local-level ties and people-to-people exchanges has also continued to expand. Mongolian leaders have affirmed that Viet Nam is one of Mongolia's important partners in Southeast Asia.

Parliamentary cooperation remained an important component of the bilateral relationship, with exchanges of delegations and contacts between the two legislative bodies being maintained and further strengthened.

The two legislatures have also continued to coordinate and support each other at regional and international parliamentary forums, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP).

President of the Vietnamese National Assembly Tran Thanh Man is the first foreign guest hosted by Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia Nyam-Osor U. Byambatsogt since the latter took office. The visit marks Tran's first official trip to Mongolia and the first visit by a top Vietnamese legislator to the country in 23 years, following the previous visit in 2003.

The visit is expected to give fresh impetus to substantive cooperation between the two legislatures, contributing to stronger bilateral collaboration in defense, security and economic ties, particularly in science and technology and other emerging areas, in line with the growing depth and scope of the Viet Nam-Mongolia Comprehensive Partnership./.
