Top Vietnamese legislator pays final respects to President of Lao National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane

In a solemn atmostphere, the Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath and observed a minute of silience in remembrance of Politburo member and President of the National Assembly of Laos Xaysomphone Phomvihane -  a close friend of the Party, State and people of Viet Nam.

Writing in the Book of Condolences, the top Vietnamese legislator expressed his profound sorrow over the passing of Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane, describing it as a great loss of the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Laos, as well as to Viet Nam.

Tran appreciated Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane's important contributions to strengthening and advancing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic cohesion between Viet Nam and Laos.

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Viet Nam, Tran extended his deepest condolences to the Party, State, National Assembly, and people of Laos, as well as to the bereaved family.

On the occasion, the top Vietnamese legislator met with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, during which both sides reaffirmed that, under any circumstances, the two Parties, States and peoples will continue to safeguard and nurture the great friendship and special solidarity, and pass them to future generations.

The two leaders vowed to further enhance cooperation across all fields, including parliamentary cooperation, thus contributing to further consolidating the bilateral ties in an increasingly fruitful and enduring manner.

Also on Sunday, Viet Nam announced two days of national mourning for Comrade Saysomphone Phomvihane, from August 10 to 11.

During this period, offices and agencies nationwide, as well as Vietnamese representative missions abroad, shall fly flags at half-mast with mourning ribbons as prescribed. Public entertainment and recreational activities shall not be held./.
