Top Vietnamese, Lao leaders hold summit meeting in Vientiane

The top Lao leader hailed the Vietnamese Party leader's decision to chose of aos as the first country to visit in his capacity as General Secretary of the 14th Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee.

He highlighted the historical significance of General Secretary To Lam's visit in the history of the Viet Nam-Laos relations as the Vietnamese delegation includes Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.

To, for his part, reiterated that the CPV stands ready to work together with the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) to further deepen the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic cohesion between Viet Nam and Laos, describing this relationship as an invaluable asset, a rule of development, and a factor ensuring the success of each country.

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the effective and substantive progress in bilateral cooperation, which not only contributes to the development of each country but also makes positive contributions to peace, stability, and development in the region.

The leaders vowed to give high priority to and effectively implement the contents of the high-level agreements and the Joint Statement reached in December 2025, as well as the outcomes of Lao leader Thongloun Sisoulith's recent State visit to Viet Nam.

Both sides pledged to promote the linkage between the two economies, prioritizing the implementation of strategic projects to create new momentum for economic, trade, investment, and regional development, striving to raise two-way trade to US$10 billion in the coming period.

They emphasized the need to further strengthen cooperation in education and training and human resource development, especially high-quality human resources, which should be identified as a strategic and long-term area of cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to enhance cultural exchanges and people-to-people linkages, particularly among the younger generations, and step up collaboration in information and communications to promote the tradition of special Viet Nam–Laos solidarity, thereby enhancing mutual understanding.

Both sides stressed the need to to establish a government-level inspection and supervision mechanism to review and assess cooperation results and promptly address difficulties, ensuring that projects are implemented on schedule and in accordance with agreed commitments, emphasized the leaders.

The leaders took the occasion to discuss global and regional issues and agreed to strengthen exchanges, consultations, and coordination at multilateral forums, enhance solidarity within ASEAN, and reinforce the bloc's central role./.
