National Assembly leaders and deputies raise funds in support of the flood victims

The same day, the National Assembly held a memorial service for residents who lost their lives during the recent storms and floods, while also launching a fundraising campaign to support affected communities in their recovery efforts.

National Assembly Vice Chairman Do Van Chien said that the historic downpours and subsequent flooding had inflicted devastating damage across the central region, particularly in Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong and several other provinces.

Despite the concerted efforts of the Party, State and armed forces to prevent and mitigate natural disasters, heavy rainfall, strong winds and rapidly rising floodwaters resulted in significant losses, he said.

On behalf of the Party, State, Viet Nam Fatherland Front and the National Assembly, Do extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, noting that solidarity and mutual support have always been core values of the Vietnamese people.

He also acknowledged and commended the army, police and local forces for their tireless and courageous efforts in rescue and relief operations.

The National Assembly Standing Committee called on all deputies, officials, civil servants and staff members to donate at least one day's salary to support those affected by the floods. Responding to the appeal, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Vice Chairpersons and other deputies made contributions to the relief fund.

On November 23, the Presidium of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee launched a nationwide appeal to support communities suffering heavy losses in the recent extraordinary flooding across the central region.

Over the past few days, floods caused by unusual heavy rains have left 102 dead and missing in the aforesaid five localities, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

Around 186,000 houses were flooded; 1,154 homes were damaged; more than 3.2 million livestock and poultry were killed or swept away, the ministry added.

Total damages were estimated at over VND9 trillion, including VND650 billion in Quang Ngai, VND1,000 billion in Gia Lai, VND5,330 billion in Dak Lak, VND1,000 billion in Khanh Hoa, and VND1,055 billion in Lam Dong.
