The visit will be made at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong, according to the announcement of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations.

The official visit to China by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong from October 30 to November 2, 2022 has contributed greatly to promoting the Viet Nam–China solidarity and traditional friendship, while deepening their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in the new era.

Trade has always been a bright spot in bilateral ties. Viet Nam continues to be the largest ASEAN trading partner of China, and the fourth largest in the world, after the U.S., Japan and the Republic of Korea.

Last year, the two-way trade hit US$175.6 billion, up 5.5 percent year-on-year. During the first seven months of 2023, the trade turnover fell by 12 percent year-on-year to US$89.1 billion. Viet Nam's trade deficit with China was US$27.4 billion in the period, down by 34.2 percent from the same time last year.

As for investment, China ranks sixth among the countries and territories with investment in Viet Nam, with 3,791 valid projects capitalized at more than US$25 billion as of June 20, 2023.

China had been the largest source of visitors to Viet Nam for many years before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. In 2019, Viet Nam welcomed more than 5.8 million Chinese visitors, a third of the total foreign arrivals to the nation./.
