Three major tasks to develop the Southern Economic Zone

VGP – In the time to come, the Southern Key Economic Zone (SKEZ) should focus on three major tasks: building transport infrastructure, quickly treating polluted rivers and solid wastes, and preparing an abundant and qualified human resource, stressed Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải.

Deputy PM Hải made the emphasis while presiding over the teleconference on the SKEZ on July 19.

The SKEZ is considered a fast-growing center with the 2007 GDP growth rate of 12.6%, income per capita of VND 31.4 million, export turnover of US $36.8 billion, and holding 54% of the country’s total FDI.

However, the zone is facing some big challenges; especially transport infrastructure, environmental pollution and human resource.

Deputy PM Hải asserted that, the immediate main task for the SKEZ is to tackle those urgent issues. He assigned the Ministries of Industry-Trade, Labor-War Invalids and Social Affairs, Transport, and Construction to outline the planning schemes on industrial parks, labor force, and waste treatment stations.

Mentioning the pollution, the Deputy PM ordered the Ministry of Resource and Environment to collaborate with relevant bodies to look for proper solutions for each river as well as strictly punish the industrial parks with no sewage facility.
