Doctor Patrick Boyle, Deputy Rector for International Relations, said the training program aims to help future Vietnamese doctors to improve their English skills, so that they will be able to conduct research and access medical documents in English on world scientific findings and innovations.

According to Dr. Boyle, in the years to come, Loyola University of Chicago will conduct similar programs for students of other universities in Việt Nam.

Last month, the university was allowed by Việt Nam’s Ministry of Education and Training to establish a representative office in Hồ Chí Minh City, becoming the first American university to have a representative office in Việt Nam.

In long term, leaders of the Loyola University of Chicago have launched an annual cultural exchange program for its professors and experts. Their first visit to Central Việt Nam and Hồ Chí Minh City from June 3 to 11 last year was part of this program.

The Loyola University of Chicago and Hồ Chí Minh City National University signed in January a cooperative project on jointly holding training courses in Việt Nam for American students, and the first one will take place in June.

Both sides will also start a program called “One week of research” at the Loyola University of Chicago for officials from Vietnamese universities and colleges, scheduled for August.

In addition, some workshops will be hosted by the Hồ Chí Minh City National University.
