Striving for a drug-free ASEAN by 2015

VNGOP – Over the past years, the Vietnamese Government and people have done their utmost to fight against drug trade and abuse. Drug prevention is one of the top priorities in Việt Nam's strategies on socio-economic development and national security.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Lê Thế Tiệm made the emphasis at the 28th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters (ASOD) opened in the morning of August 21 in Hà Nội.

During the five-day meeting, the attendants from ASEAN members will discuss on preventing, eradicating and replacing psychotropic substance-containing plants, treatment and rehabilitation for drug addicts. The meeting will also put forth initiatives and practical solutions to improve drug prevention in the region.

In preventing drug traffic and abuse, the Vietnamese Government has taken many comprehensive and consistent measures as well as approved a master program on drug prevention to 2010.
