At these meetings, the Vietnamese leaders expected that the visit will promote the relationship between Viet Nam and the OIF in the future.

Viet Nam advocates efforts of the Secretary General on the implementation of the Economic Strategy for La Francophonie, approved in 2014, expecting that under the leadership of Michaelle Jean, the OIF will have an increasing status in the international community and actively assist its members’ sustainable development.

Viet Nam is committed to actively contributing to the OIF’s common efforts, and it is ready to act as a bridge linking the organization and the ASEAN countries.

State President Quang announced that he will lead a high-ranking delegation of Viet Nam to the 16th Francophonie Summit, themed “ Shared growth and responsible development: conditions for stability around the world and within La Francophonie”, slated for this November in Madagascar and will deliver a speech sharing the country’s viewpoints and experience to join hands with the OIF countries in achieving this goal.

The occasion, he proposed Ms. Michaelle Jean and the OIF countries support Viet Nam’s candidacy for a non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure, and its candidacy for the posts of UNESCO Director-General and member of the International Law Commission in the 2017-2021 tenure.

At her reception for Ms. Michaëlle Jean, NA Chairwoman Ngan said that the Vietnamese NA has made efforts in joining activities and agenda of the APF and the OIF.

Viet Nam desires to strengthen and consolidate the presence of the OIF in the region to affirm the nation’ role as an active and responsible member of the OIF, she added.

The OIF General Secretary hailed Viet Nam’s accomplishments in socio-economic development and international integration.

She also valued Viet Nam’s approach to cooperation with African nations, which is cooperation together with solidarity and cooperation for people’s interests and community responsibility. This approach completely suits the upcoming summit’s theme “Shared growth and responsible development”.

Recognizing its contributions to the OIF, Michaelle Jean said together with participating in new free trade agreements, and expanding cooperation and investment in other countries, Viet Nam will contribute greatly to the development of the Francophone community.
