Standard Chartered puts Viet Nam’s growth at 6.5% in 2023
VGP - Standard Chartered has lowered its growth forecast for Viet Nam for 2023 from 7.2 percent to 6.5 percent, which is equal to the GDP growth rate set by the National Assembly.
Viet Nam's GDP grew some 3.32 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023, according to the General Statistics Office of Viet Nam (GSO).
External factors such as continued geopolitical tensions, supply chain issues and commodity market pressure as well as some turmoil in the domestic capital market and corporate bond market are potential drags on growth this year.
Earlier, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) forecasted that Viet Nam's economy will grow firmly, with its GDP projected at 6.5percent in 2023 and 6.6 percent next year.
Viet Nam has made remarkable economic progress over the past decades, sustaining high growth, said Acting Deputy Director of the OECD's Economic Country Studies Branch Vincent Koen, calling extensive and continued reforms since the 1980s a key to this success.
He said the economy has also proven resilient to shocks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that during the outbreak, the country was outstanding among other Southeast Asian nations in terms of economic growth./.
