Sri Lankan President Dissanayaka starts State visit to Viet Nam

VGP – Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka arrived at Ha Noi-based Noi Bai International Airport on Sunday morning, starting his three-day State visit to Viet Nam.

President Dissanayaka was welcomed at the airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religion Nong Thi Ha, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Viet Nam Perera Wewala Appuhamillage Udam Poshitha.

This is the first visit by a head of State of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam in 16 years, according to Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam.

During the visit, he is expected to meet with top Vietnamese leaders in Ha Noi and attend the UN Day of Vesak in Ho Chi Minh City.

Viet Nam and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations on July 21, 1970. The two countries have maintained traditional and multi-faceted cooperation.

Sri Lanka has recognized Viet Nam's market economy status and considered the Southeast Asian nation as a successful economic development model./.
