During the three-day visit, the two countries will discuss measures to promote political trust, deepen the existing foundations and open up new opportunities for cooperation in potential areas, especially politics-diplomacy, trade, investment, science and technology, infrastructure development, and renewable energy, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Doan Thanh Son.

Both sides will also sign several cooperation agreements to boost bilateral cooperation, the diplomat added.

Viet Nam and Spain established diplomatic relations on May 23, 1977 and elevated the bilateral ties to Strategic Partnership on December 15, 2009.

Spain has become Viet Nam's 8th largest trading partner in the European Union while Viet Nam is the biggest trading partner of Spain in ASEAN.

The two-way trade increased by 15-20 percent annually, from US$1.2 billion in 2010 to US$4.7 billion in 2024.

Viet Nam mainly exports phones and spare parts, steel, garment and footwear to Spain while importing machines, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastic materials from the European country.

Spain was the first EU member to ratify the Viet Nam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) as it considers the Southeast Asian nation as a highly promising market for their enterprises./.
