Singapore names hybrid orchid species after Viet Nam’s Prime Minister and spouse
VGP - Singapore on Thursday named a hybrid orchid species "Papilionanda Pham Le Tran Chinh," after Chinh and his wife's names when the pair visited the National Orchid Garden, with over 3,000 orchid and hybrid species.
The hybrid orchid, which was hybridised from a species of orchid in Viet Nam and a species in Singapore, symbolises strong vitality, according to representatives of the garden.
Prime Minister Pham expressed thanks to Singapore for this honor and hoped the two countries' relations would develop strongly and last as long as the beauty of this new orchid species.
The orchid naming ceremony has been Singapore's gesture of friendship and promotion of goodwill between visiting heads of state and other distinguished guests since 1956.
*The same day, Prime Minister Pham offered flowers at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in the Asian Civilizations Museum.
Singapore's National Heritage Board erected the monument in 2008 in commemoration of the 118th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday, as well as the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Singapore./.
