Second semiconductor plant in North begins operations
VGP - Amkor Technology Viet Nam on Wednesday inaugurated its semiconductor plant in the northern province of Bac Ninh. This is the second semiconductor plant in North Viet Nam.
The inauguration ceremony drew the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, indicating the fact that the Government attaches importance to the development of the semiconductor sector in Viet Nam.
Amkor Technology planned to pour initial investment capital of US$1.6 billion in its plant in Viet Nam, which generates around 2,000 jobs now and around 10,000 jobs by 2035.
It is the largest high-tech semiconductor plant of Amkor in the world. The plant will deliver advanced system-in-package modules and other packaging solutions, helping it with supply chain diversification.
Viet Nam, with advantages in geopolitical position, economy’s openness and the workforce, and initial foundation of the electronic semiconductor which have been built in the last 20 years, is believed to be a potential destination and compete with rivals to join the global supply chain.
The first semiconductor plant in the North was officially put into operation on September 16 at the Van Trung Industrial Park in Bac Giang province.
In August, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ordered the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Education and Training, and Ministry of Science and Technology to collaborate to train 30,000-50,000 engineers and 100 experts in digital transformation and manufacturing semiconductors.
He also called local authorities and foreign companies to help Viet Nam produce semiconductors./.
