SEA’s biggest cable-stayed bridge inaugurated in Mekong Delta city

VGP – The Ministry of Transport this morning inaugurated the Cần Thơ Bridge, the biggest cable-stayed bridge in Southeast Asia, connecting the two banks of the Hậu River.

April 24, 2010 12:18 PM GMT+7
Addressing the ceremony, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng highlighted the project’s socio-economic and political significance because it will surely help to facilitate the linkages between Hồ Chí Minh City, the biggest economic center in Việt Nam, and Mekong Delta provinces.

The Government chief took the occasion to thank the Government and people of Japan for their great assistance to Việt Nam, especially by granting preferential ODA for socio-economic development and infrastructure upgradation.

The Cần Thơ Bridge is a vivid symbol of the friendship and cooperation between Việt Nam and Japan, said PM Dũng.

The Cần Thơ Bridge crosses the Hậu River, connecting Cần Thơ City and Vĩnh Long Province.

Its width is enough for four lanes of automobiles and two lanes of motorbikes running at the design speed of 80 km/h.

The project was invested with VND 4,832 billion through ODA from the Japanese Government.
