Sanofi and VNVC sign Joint Declaration on next-generation vaccine manufacturing in Viet Nam

At the Forum, Sanofi Viet Nam and Viet Nam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) signed a Joint Declaration of strategic cooperation on next-generation vaccine manufacturing in Viet Nam.

The Joint declaration focuses on key objectives including enhancing domestic vaccine manufacturing capacity, progressively increasing supply autonomy and meeting disease prevention needs; contributing to health security and expanding access to essential healthcare products; while developing human resources and a sustainable vaccine ecosystem that contributes to socio-economic development. Both parties are working together to identify potential vaccines for future manufacturing by VNVC, with three vaccines initially identified for further assessment.

Following the signing ceremony, the delegation of Ministry of Health leaders along with representatives from VNVC and Sanofi visited Sanofi manufacturing facility in Neuville-sur-Saône, France. The visit provided a direct opportunity to learn about Sanofi's manufacturing expertise, technologies and quality systems, while exchanging views on the cooperation roadmap between VNVC and Sanofi.

According to the Joint Declaration, the three vaccines identified as priorities for future production by VNVC in Viet Nam are important vaccines with high unmet demand, supporting disease prevention across the life course, from infants and adolescents to adults and the elderly.

According to VNVC's plan, the VNVC Vaccine and Biologics Manufacturing Facility is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2027, with the first vaccine batches targeted for production in 2028 and Viet Nam-manufactured vaccines expected to be commercialized from 2029.

With a population of over 100 million people and expanding immunization needs across multiple age groups, Vietnam has an important market foundation for developing large-scale and long-term vaccine production.

The cooperation between Sanofi and VNVC has continued to advance through a series of important milestones, including a key milestone witnessed by French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Viet Nam in 2025. The September 2026 Joint Declaration marks a further step forward, bringing the partnership into a new phase of development, with both parties establishing more specific priorities for key products and key milestones.

Mr. Ngo Chi Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Viet Nam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC), assessed that this Joint Declaration represents an important transition from cooperation orientation to realizing the goal of localizing next-generation vaccines in Viet Nam.

The VNVC Vaccine and Biologics Manufacturing Facility in Tây Ninh has an initial investment of over VND 2,500 billion, covering more than 26,000 m², with a designed capacity of approximately 120 million vaccine doses annually. The facility aims to meet international WHO-GMP, EU-GMP and FDA-cGMP standards and strengthen Viet Nam's capabilities in vaccine and biologics research, manufacturing and testing.
